February 2, 2022 | The Youth Development Alliance (YDA) of General Santos City, an inter-agency consortium for out-of-school youth development has been expanding its effort to reach out to more private sectors to become business partners and form part of the alliance.
Through the City Economic Management and Cooperative Development Office (CEMCDO), O.2 program management team led by USAID Opportunity, Education Development Center (EDC), and Volunteer Service Overseas (VSO) was introduced to different industry leaders and cooperatives to discuss the program and draw areas of collaboration.
Among the companies visited were; (1) The OJS Space Design Enterprise, distributor and manufacturer of laminated home and office fixtures, (2) Lagao Drivers and Operators Transport Cooperative (LADOTRANSCO), and (3) Felicidad Orchard and Garden Organics.
During the visit, the team gained favorable support from the companies with initial agreements of accepting O.2 youth to their respective companies as a learning site for life skills training, work-based learning, volunteering activities, and work immersion subject to their company’s Human Resources (HR) policies.
USAID Opportunity 2. O is a five-year program that aims to provide a second-chance opportunity to out-of-school youth for better employment, higher education, or starting their own business.
